World Microbiome Day

Sponsored by The Interacademic parntership for Health & L’ Académie Nationale de Médecine France
June 27, 2019 - Paris, FRANCE

World Microbiome Day aims to showcase the vibrant and diverse worlds of microbiomes, and to encourage public dialogue on their critical importance to human, animal and environmental health.  We encourage microbiome researchers from around the world, working on different microbial worlds to join us and spread the message of the importance of microbiomes.

What is the function of the human microbiome? Humans have microbiomes in a variety of different locations that are in contact with the outside world e.g. skin, mouth, vagina, lung and the gastrointestinal tract. This gut microbiome carries out many essential functions for the host such as: helping digestion and synthesis of essential nutrients, immune system development, preventing infections, modulator of the chronic diseases.

This June 27, 2019, Philippe Sansonetti, Joël Doré and Claude Vincent, in the name of the Microbiome InterAcademicGroup and Philippe Mauguin, President of INRA, will host an event at Paris Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie, featuring a preview of the documentary “the fabulous power of the belly’’ and a debate with French Academie of SciencesScientists involved, followed by a ‘‘microbiome friendly cocktail’’ and open private visits of the exhibits ‘‘microbiota’’, ‘‘the brain’’ and ‘‘man and its genome’’.

The event will be under Patronage of the Inter Academy Partnership for Health, the French Academy of Medicine and French Académie des Sciences, with sponsoring from the Microbiome Foundation, Danone Nutrition Research and APRC.
